Starting at TerraNichol
Let's start this journey together.
When students begin at TerraNichol Academy, there are a few essential skills and tips to remember to make a successful start. Here are some helpful reminders:
TO PREPARE FOR SCHOOL
It's important to encourage your child's independence and engage in meaningful conversations.
Here are alternative ways to express the same ideas:
FOSTER INDEPENDENCE
Encourage your child to take on tasks independently, both at home and during outings. Allow them to walk alongside you instead of using a stroller, let them feed themselves with utensils, dress themselves including putting on their own shoes and socks, and involve them in decision-making processes, such as helping with lunch choices and packing their own lunch. Creating opportunities for independence at home will contribute to your child's self-image and self-esteem.
PROMOTE COMMUNICATION
Help your child develop strong communication skills by engaging in conversations with them regularly. Talk about things you observe in your surroundings, have conversations during mealtimes, and encourage your child to express their feelings using words when they're upset. Being a positive model for communication will assist them in expressing their needs, emotions, and ideas effectively.
EMPHASIZE READING AND PLAY
Emphasize Reading and Play: Reading plays a crucial role in preparing your child for school. Take advantage of local libraries and visit them frequently to discover a wide variety of books to read together. Additionally, encourage imaginative play throughout the day, as it enhances creativity and cognitive development. It's important to limit TV and screen time each day, as it cannot replace the benefits derived from conversations, reading, and active play.
Please note that for children in the Nido Nest age group (24 months to 3 years old), they will be working on developing self-help and life skills, and these goals will be achieved through consistent support, repetition, guidance from parents, and the teaching team members.
ONCE AT TNA PRESCHOOL
There are several things to keep in mind regarding your child's readiness for school:
INDEPENDENT BATHROOM USE.
Independent Bathroom Use: Potty-training is not a requirement for enrollment at TerraNichol Academy. However, for students who are using the bathroom, it is essential that they can use the toilet independently, clean up after themselves, and wash their hands properly.
LUNCH AND LIFE SKILLS.
Each time food is prepared at home for the next day, your child should know what they will be eating and what their belongings are. Your child should be capable of carrying their own lunchbox, opening containers, setting up their lunch space with a mat, napkins, and utensils, and opening their own drink cup or container. They should be able to request refills for their water bottles during the day.
NAPTIME RESPONSIBILITIES
Your child should be able to make up their nap cot independently at naptime, pack up their nap bag, and put it away.
Comfortable Attire: Our program encourages hands-on exploration, which may result in getting messy. Dress your child in comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.
EXPAND EXPERIENCES
Children make connections with new information based on their background experiences. Take advantage of living in Florida by providing new experiences for your child, such as visiting museums, exploring new places, and interacting with different people.
PARENT-TEACHER PARTNERSHIP
We value an active parent-teacher partnership throughout the school year. Consider how you would like to be involved in the program and engage with teachers to support your child's learning and development.
By keeping these points in mind, you can help ensure a smooth transition and productive experience for your child at TNA Preschool
